FAQs

What is Digital Certificates?

The University of Greenwich Digital Certificates website provides a secure place to store and access academic electronic documents such as graduate degree certificates and transcripts. Graduates can view and/or order these documents and grant secure access to third parties such as employers, embassies, or higher education institutions to view these fully authenticated eDocuments.

How soon after getting my results can I register for a Digital Certificates account?

You can only register if:

  • Your award was conferred at a Progression and Award Board at least three weeks ago.
  • Or if you withdrew in a previous session.

New graduates will receive an email inviting them to register for an account three weeks after the date of their award board.

If you studied at one of our collaborative institutions please do not register, your official documents will be printed and sent to your institution for dispatch. After you have received your official documents (certificate, transcript) you will be able to register.

I can't register with Digital Certificates.

If you are experiencing problems during registration, please follow the guidance below:

  • Ensure your student ID number is correct – it starts with 00 and is nine digits.
  • Ensure you are using your personal email address as recorded on the university database.
  • Ensure that you enter your full name and that it is the same as it would have been on the University’s systems when you graduated.

I can’t remember my student ID number.

This starts with 00 and is nine digits.

If you studied recently, you should be able to find your student ID number on any correspondence from the university or on the bottom left had corner of your certificate if you have this in your possession.

If you competed your studies more than two years ago and are unable to find this information please email certificates@gre.ac.uk providing your full name, date of birth, programme of study and approximate dates of study along with a scanned copy of photographic ID and an administrator will check this against the university database and provide the number by return email.

I haven’t received the email to confirm my email address.

Please check your email spam and/or junk folders as your email provider may not have recognised the sender as a safe sender and re-directed it from your inbox. If after checking your spam and junk folders you still have not received your confirmation email, please contact certificates@gre.ac.uk providing your name, date of birth and student ID number.

After registration, my account is ‘Pending Approval’.

This means that your account will need to be approved by a university administrator. This can take up to 4 working days. Please do not email to request this as the administrators will receive a notification.

My account is locked.

Your account will lock if you enter an incorrect log in information multiple times. The account will unlock automatically after 1 hour.

There are mandatory fields for first and last name, but I have only one name – what do I do?

Please enter the same name in both fields.

How can I access my eDocuments?

Once you’ve logged in, you will be taken to your Dashboard. Your eDocuments are held in the Documents section of the Dashboard, you can access this page by clicking on the View button.

Once you are on the Documents page, you will need to click on the blue View button to open the document viewer. From the drop-down menu in the top left of the document viewer, you can select which of your eDocuments you would like to view.

I am a new graduate, what documents should I order?

Please ensure you order your free Graduation Pack which consists of your certificate (not applicable to associate programmes) and transcript.

What products can be ordered as hardcopies?

  • Your Graduation Pack which contains your certificate (not applicable to associate programmes) and your transcript.
  • Replacement Degree Certificate if your original copy has been lost or destroyed. Only one can be issued, any earlier versions will be invalidated by a reprint.
  • An Academic Transcript of the modules and marks passed – you can order as many as you need.
  • Confirmation of study letter, a letter confirming your award and the years enrolled at the University. You can order as many as you need.
  • Certified copies of your certificate which consists of 3 photocopies of your original certificate signed and stamped. Please note, this can only be issued if you already have your original certificate.

Can I print my certificate?

Digital Certificates allows you to access, view and share your certificate. You can also download and print a copy from the preview screen. However, this is an unverified copy and will not be formatted correctly or be watermarked so should not be used for verification purposes.

My certificate looks different to the example shown.

Some browsers do not render the certificates as well as others. Your certificate may not display correctly in Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer. We would recommend using Chrome or Firefox.

Can anyone view a graduate's eDocuments on the Digital Certificates website?

No, the website is designed to be secure so that only a graduate can have full access to their eDocuments. A graduate can, however, grant access to third parties such as higher education institutions or employers, which the graduate can remove or extend at any time.

Can I give prospective employers/universities/Embassies access to verify my award?

Yes – you can create a ‘Connection’ with third parties which gives them the permission to log in and view/verify the authenticity of your qualification. See ‘Connections’ on the dashboard to start. You can control how long you wish to allow access to your qualification for by selecting an end date. After this date, third parties will no longer be able to access your information.

How do I share my eDocuments with third parties?

To share your documents, you will need to access the ‘Connections’ section of your Dashboard by clicking on the Manage button. You will then be able to grant access to third parties such as employers, embassies, or higher education institutions to view your eDocuments.

To add a new connection, click on the green ‘Add Connection’ button in the top right of the page and enter the details of the person or organisation who you would like to grant access to view your eDocuments. The third party will then be sent an email to approve the connection request. Once they have accepted your connection request, they will be able to view your eDocuments.

How do I update my contact or personal details?

You can update your details in the ‘Profile’ section of your dashboard.

How do I change/reset my password?

If you have forgotten your password, you can change your password via the login/register screen, using the ‘Forgotten password’ function.

You can change your password at any time by logging into Digital Certificates and accessing the Profile section of your Dashboard. From the Profile page, you will need to select ‘Change Password’ from the left-hand menu, here you can enter and save your new password.

Will updating contact details on the Student Verification Portal update my details with the University?

No - Updating your contact details in Digital Certificates will NOT update the University contact details for alumni.
